There is no way around it; medical care can be expensive. However, Direct Primary Care offers an alternative way to provide affordable, high-quality health care.
Direct Primary Care practices charge a flat monthly or annual fee for access to a broad range of primary care services. Removing third-party insurers and the related extensive admin tasks allows doctors to focus on your individual needs as a patient.
The more common practice model is ‘fee for service’, which means that patients (and their insurance companies) pay ‘by the appointment’. This incentivizes a need to see as many patients as can possibly be squeezed into appointment books.
Instead of the traditional 'fee for service' model involving insurers, Direct Primary Care is provided through patients paying a monthly/annual fee. This fee covers health services provided by a primary care doctor.
The reduced administrative burden also allows doctors to spend more time with patients - enabling longer appointment times. Doctors can offer better services due to not cramming in as many appointments as possible, giving them time to truly develop a doctor-patient relationship. This is a crucial component in achieving better health.
